Mohsin Naqvi, the current Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is all set to replace Jay Shah as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2025. The development comes after Shah was appointed as the next Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). According to sources, Naqvi’s appointment will be officially announced in the ACC meeting proposed to take place between October-November 2024.
Jay Shah, the current ACC President and Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has served the ACC for over four years, with his tenure extended in January 2024. Shah is now transitioning to the global stage as the ICC Chairman, a prestigious position he will assume in December 2024.
His tenure at ACC has been marked by significant events, including successfully managing the Asia Cup and contributing to the development of cricket across the Asian region.
Mohsin Naqvi, who took over as PCB Chairman earlier this year, faces both opportunities and challenges in his new role at the ACC. He’s going to witness many cricketing events under his leadership at the ACC, including the 2025 Asia Cup to be held in India in T20 format.
Earlier, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was to be hosted in Pakistan. This would be a critical period for Naqvi, with Pakistan’s unpredictable cricket, and the sour relationship between the Pakistan and India cricket boards, particularly with respect to India’s participation in Pakistan-hosted events.
Naqvi will take over in charge of the ACC at a time when cricket diplomacy between the two nations is in the spotlight. While Shah’s focus shifts to globalizing the sport through his new ICC role, Naqvi will be tasked with ensuring stability and growth in Asian cricket amidst these regional tensions.
