The Indian women’s cricket team has announced its squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the UAE from October 3rd to 20th. The team also includes the two promising players, Shreyanka Patil and Yastika Bhatia, who have shown considerable performances in the domestic circuit.
But still, their inclusion comes with a condition, as the duo suffers from injuries and will only play in the tournament if they pass their respective fitness tests.
Off-spinning star all-rounder Shreyanka Patil is now considered the rising star of the Indian cricket team. Unfortunately, she got a finger injury during the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 match against Pakistan that has kept her out of the field.
But the selection is very much on the cards, considering her strong performances and the high level of confidence shown in her by the team management. Depth in India’s bowling attack will play a crucial role in the important World Cup matches.
Wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia has also made a comeback to the squad after an injury to her knee caused her layoff. Her experience and versatility as a left-handed batter make her really significant for the team.
Especially with regard to the middle order, Bhatia’s role will be important in providing some sort of support in case India gets into trouble in pressure situations.
Harmanpreet Kaur is leading the Indian squad with Smriti Mandhana as vice-captain; the team consists of a fine balance of experienced players and young talent. It was the same team that played in the Women’s Asia Cup recently, where India finished as runners-up.
India will start its campaign against New Zealand on October 4. India will also face Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and defending champions Australia in their group stage match.
