After the catastrophic T20 World Cup match, the Pakistan cricket squad underwent a lengthy and grueling post-mortem. Despite being viewed as the dark horse, Pakistan could not advance past the group stage. They lost to their bitter enemies in a thrilling match after being taken aback by the tournament’s co-hosts and rookies, the USA. Due to their losses, Pakistan could not qualify for the Super 8, infuriating both present and retired cricket players.
T20 World Cup Disaster
The competition itself, however, was another story. From unexpected losses to critical periods of underperformance, the squad battled to establish its foothold. This resulted in a storm of criticism from the general population and the media, who were upset with the results.
Mohammad Rizwan's Role on the Team
Mohammad Rizwan, a crucial participant, had substantial responsibilities. Given his reputation for consistency and competence, he was anticipated to underpin the team’s performance. Despite his efforts, the team dynamics did not align, resulting in a collective failure.
Fans and former cricket players have been highly critical of Baber Azam and his team, to the point where some have even called on the board to fire the entire group for their appalling performance in the T20 World Cup. Mohammad Rizwan, a batsman and wicket keeper for Pakistan, has acknowledged the criticism directed at the players, saying that it’s all just part of a steep learning curve.
Athletes who are incapable of taking criticism will never be successful. We are not happy with how we performed in the T20 World Cup. There are several causes for our losses. During a news conference in Peshawar, Rizwan stated, “One cannot say that bowling and batting are doing well when a team loses.
Using the word “operation” at a news conference, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Mohsin Naqvi hinted that the board would likely take drastic measures against the players. In expressing his opinions, Rizwan conceded that the PCB president possesses the authority to choose Pakistan’s cricket destiny.
“Operations happen on a regular basis. An operation is required when a person is unwell. The Chairman of PCB is a diligent individual. The chairman has the authority to decide who will stay on the squad and who won’t,” he continued.
In the T20 World Cup, Rizwan, too, had a lackluster performance, scoring 110 runs with an unimpressive strike rate of 90.90 and an average of 36.66.
